description : On January 27, 2003 the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union authorized Directive 200295EC on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. This new directive, also referred to as RoHS requires that manufacturers reduce usage of six hazardous substances to minimum acceptable levels by July of 2006. 1) Lead (Pb), 2) Hexavalent chromium (Cr +6), 3) Mercury (Hg), 4) Polybrominated biphenyl (PBB), 5) Cadmium (Cd), 6) Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) As with RoHS, Directive 200296EC, or WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment), was authorized.
